Cat Eye Problems Conjunctivitis
The four most eye problems that can occur in cats and can be painful and cause vision loss. It is important to be aware of eye issues that your pet may suffer from and know the symptoms. Any disease that is caught earlier is much easier to treat and recover from.
First, Glaucoma is a disease that causes pressure to build up in the eye which leads to a lack of fluid drainage. It attacks the optic nerve, which is a collection of over 1 million fibres strung together.
Another disease to look out for in your cat is conjunctivitis, sometimes called ‘pink eye’, this is when the membrane found on the outer of the eye becomes inflamed this painful problem can be caused by a number of different things including viral and bacterial infections, allergens, injury and chemicals.
The third disease to be aware of it cataracts. Another common disease that we often talk about, can also affect cats. Cataracts can be caused by a number of different things from disease to obesity, there isn’t a way to completely prevent your animal from developing one and it is hard to predict if they will or not.
Finally, the last disease to watch out for is corneal ulceration. This is a condition that often develops from a scratch of a break on the corneal. The open wounds can be serious and cause permanent vision loss. Symptoms to watch out for are sensitivity to light, not wanting to open the infection eye and red eyes with discharge.
