Marine Phytoplankton for Dinner

08-06-2018

Fish and chips! This is one of the most favourite meals in the UK. Some claim it is even better eaten direct from the paper. Fish is something that nutritionists recommend as part of a healthy diet though they would say that it should not be deep friend in batter too frequently. How you cook fish is very important.

Without wanting to put you off fish, one of the things that there is an increasing amount of publicity about is the pollution of the seas. Plastic has been highlighted recently as a potential killer of marine life but something equally as dangerous, if not more so, are things like mercury because that can get into the human food chain from trawler catches of affected fish.

Much has been written about the possible levels of mercury found in particular species of fish and the levels that are regarded as perfectly safe for human consumption. If you are worried about what you read then go into greater depth and follow the advice.

The benefits of fish cannot be lost because of damage to the seas. Fresh catch is better than farmed fish and is one of the highlights of restaurants everywhere. You won’t see Marine Phytoplankton on any menu but it is something that has sustained marine life from the beginning of time. Indeed, bird life feeds on it when it can access it; when large pieces of melting ice crash into the sea in artic summers to create currents, plankton is forced to the surface and seabirds are waiting. It must have something positive to add to good health. Marine Phytoplankton is not only being taken as a supplement, it is also starting to be used by chefs who recognise the flavour it can add to dishes.

Vitamins and minerals are essential to good health. Add omega 3 and the protein that it includes and dinner with phytoplankton is health on a plate. Few kinds of cuisine get as much positive comment than that broadly known as ‘’Mediterranean’’ with the use of olive oil, fresh vegetables and herbs, and regularly using seafood.

How is this for a healthy dinner without the extensive use of sugar and salt that are both harmful in excess? Indeed, don’t even reach for the salt cellar. You can think about sardines or scallops as a starter using phytoplankton, grill some fish and serve in a simple sauce with salad without a fattening dressing and some fresh fruit. With the healthy food you will have at that sitting, you may even be able to have a glass of wine and not feel guilty.

Marine Phytoplankton is readily available in powder form. If you look online, perhaps on a popular website like eBay, you will be able to buy it and get it delivered to your door. It is perfectly safe; remember it has sustained the seas since the beginning of time.
